Abstract (en)

Observations on the cultural situation in southern Umbria in the 14th and 15th cs., and questions of methodology for the study of the area and its art. Briefly surveys subjects discussed at the conference, Dall'Albornoz all'età dei Borgia (held 1-3 Oct 1987 at the Teatro Sociale, Amelia). Emphasizes the importance of Fra Angelico for Umbrian art; considers the rise in private patronage of art in churches under Nicholas V, and comments on Nicholas V's impact on art in southern Umbria, including his patronage of Bartolomeo di Tommaso. Finally, discusses the remodeling of the Palazzo vescovile of Terni in the late 14th and early 15th cs.
