Abstract (en)
Discusses Carradori's activity as a copyist and restorer of antique sculpture for Pietro Leopoldo, focusing on various works by him now in Palazzo Pitti, Florence--Bacchus and Ariadne and Caunus and Biblis, and the unpublished Jupiter Serapis and Antinous--and their relationship to antique originals and the context of antiquarian culture in Rome in the late 18th c. (Includes evidence concerning Giuseppe Fede and his collection.) Also examines Carradori's connection with the Medici collection of ancient sculpture at the Villa Medici in Rome, transferred by Pietro Leopoldo to Florence. Includes an appendix with Carradori's inventory of the sculptures at the Villa Medici that required restoration (1778).
