Collected essays on the history of the National Library of Scotland (Edinburgh), its architecture, and its holdings of books and manuscripts, from its foundation in 1689 as the Advocates' Library to the present; and a volume focusing on the buildings in which the Advocates' Library was housed up to its re-creation as the National Library in 1925 (including the Upper Signet Library in the Laigh Hall of Parliament House).
