Abstract (en)
Interprets the fruit basket in the foreground of Caravaggio's ca.1600-1601 painting (London, National Gallery) as an emblem of Christ's resurrection and of salvation. Relates this image to the passage in I Corinthians 15 where Christ is referred to as "the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep."
