Presents evidence from the correspondence of Eleonora de'Medici showing that ceilings in the Corte Vecchia of the Palazzo Ducale of Mantua, including that of the Stanza del Labirinto, were taken from the Palazzo di San Sebastiano in Mantua, built 1506-1508 for Francesco II Gonzaga; the significance of the labyrinth ceiling has therefore nothing to do with Vincenzo Gonzaga, who was away when it was installed. Also discusses the removal of paintings from the Palazzo di S. Sebastiano and their installation in the Palazzo Ducale.
