Discusses Federico Zuccari's completion of the frescoes of the Last Judgment on the cupola of the Duomo of Florence, begun by Vasari in 1572 on the basis of the iconographic program devised by Vincenzo Borghini. Notes that anti-Medici sentiment caused a negative response to the frescoes and particularly to Zuccari's contribution, and that the only published response is the description in R. Borghini's Il riposo. Presents evidence of a campaign on the part of the Medici and Zuccari's supporters to promote the frescoes and Zuccari: a manuscript, Description of the cupola of the Duomo (Florence, Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale, MS Magl. XVII.21), here dated 1579-84. (Includes a transcription of the manuscript).
