Surveys literature on Luca Forte and still life painting in Naples in the 17th c., and argues on grounds of stylistic comparison with Forte's signed Still Life with Fruit and Flowers (private collection) that Filippo Napoletano is the author of the Still Life with Tuberose previously given to Forte (Rome, Galleria Nazionale di Palazzo Corsini). Discusses the oeuvres of both artists, and reassesses the development of Neapolitan still life painting. Also comments on works of Giacomo Recco.
