Discusses the painting done 1460 for the Palazzo Medici, Florence, and subsequently lost. Draws attention to a majolica plate (probably Gubbio ca.1520; now London, British Museum) which depicts Hercules and the Lion in a way which is consistent with Vasari's description of Pollaiuolo's painting. Argues that the plate was done after a hypothetical lost engraving (Italian 15th c.) which in turn was based on Pollaiuolo's canvas.
