Abstract (en)
Identifies the subject of a painting attributed to Andrea Locatelli (location unknown). The picture which was sold at Christie's (London, 19 May 1989) as An Extensive Italianate River Landscape with a Nymph Plucking a Branch from a Bleeding Tree is here shown to represent The Metamorphosis of Dryope. Author briefly traces the pictorial tradition of this subject which is sometimes confused with the Birth of Adonis.
