Abstract (en)
Contrasts Venice's relatively minor role in the Medieval discovery, reuse and appreciation of ancient sculpture with that of other Northern Italian cities: in the 11th-14th cs., the prevailing tendency in Venice was to import and reuse Eastern Christian (Early Christian and Byzantine) antiquities rather than Roman spolia.
