Essays by 10 American painters whose works fit the theme of this issue of Art Journal, i.e., "constructed painting," a loose designation meant to include shaped canvas and relief painting of various kinds. The writings deal primarily with the artists' development and creative processes. Contributing artists: James Biederman, Michael Boyd, Larry Brown, Sam Gilliam, Suzanne Joelson, Will Mentor, Jonathan Santlofer, Ken Sofer, Norman Toynton, Mark Williams.
