Interpretive study of Homer's late oil paintings, coastal landscapes and views of the ocean, 1890-1910, which he painted on the Maine coast. Also examines the influence of Homer's marine landscapes on succeeding generations of American artists, including Charles H. Woodbury, Frederick Judd Waugh, Robert Henri, Van Dearing Perrine, George Bellows, Rockwell Kent, Leon Kroll, George Luks, Edward Hopper, John Sloan, N.C. Wyeth, John Marin, and Marsden Hartley.
