Studies frescoes in the crypt, or funerary chapel of S. Luke of Steiris, below the Katholikon at the monastery of Hosios Loukas [Osiou Louka]. Dates the frescoes ca.970-1000 and identifies the patrons as abbots Theodosius and Philotheus. Provides catalogue with technical and iconographic descriptions, especially the themes of salvation, resurrection and intercession. Discusses the relation of architecture and decoration to the liturgical (healing cult) function of the crypt. Also discusses the crypt's social, military and political context.
