Abstract (en)
Provides a history and critical analysis of conceptual art, 1965-1991. Identifies both the threads of continuity and the differences in motivation between conceptualists of the 1960s and conceptually-based artists from the 1970s to the present. Explores the calls to self-consciousness created by the movement, and the use of the tools of photography and language to articulate issues of meaning. Exhibition presents works by 18 artists, mostly Americans, ranging from the British group Art & Language, Joseph Kosuth, Robert Barry, Douglas Huebler and Lawrence Weiner to Sarah Charlesworth, Mike Kelley, Stephen Prina, Christopher Williams and Louise Lawler.
