Offers a biography of the Bolognese artist and a study of his critical fortune, as well as a catalogue raisonné of 48 works commissioned by Prince Johann Adam Andreas von Liechtenstein. Discusses the prince's patronage of Franceschini in the context of Central European taste for Italian painting, and examines in detail Franceschini's decorations for the prince's garden palace at Rossau-Vienna. Includes transcriptions of correspondence between Franceschini and the prince, and of receipts for the purchase of paintings in Bologna.
