Abstract
(en)
Discusses the triumphs or allegorical portraits on the versos of traditional portraits (ca.1472) of Federico da Montefeltro and Battista Sforza (Florence, Uffizi). Discusses various iconographic meanings, concluding: "Piero has created a visual analogue of S. Paul's famous comparison between belief and knowledge: 'now we see as in a mirror dimly, but then face-to-face' (I Corinthians 13:13). This Biblical image is most appropriate for expressing...their abiding love for one another."
