Abstract (en)
Offers an account of Hunt's travels (1854-1873), questioning what it might mean to "see with new eyes." Looks at the construction of a form of biblical painting in the framework of colonial power. Examines how and why the European artist-traveler orders the spaces of the Oriental other and, finally, identifies the represented body of Christ as the object of narcissistic desire, the space that is to be occupied by the colonialist authority.
