Abstract
(en)
Argues that both Pre-Raphaelitism and the newly developing practice of stereoscopic photography in the 1840s and 1850s re-problematise depth of field and thereby engage a shared cultural and political debate. Concentrates on Millais's painting The Woodman's Daughter (London, Guildhall Art Gallery) and on Coventry Patmore's poem of the same title on which the painting was based.
