Abstract (en)
Deplores the recent restoration of the monument of Ilaria del Carretto by Jacopo della Quercia (Lucca, cathedral), and in light of this and current restorations in Italy proposes a bill of rights for works of art to defend them against unnecessary or hasty restorations and other hazards. Cites the history of disastrous restorations and overcleaning, not only in Italy, and the damages and dangers due to the art market and blockbuster exhibitions; sets forth a list of rights; and makes proposals concerning implementation on an international level.
