Concentrates on development of the gardens from 1646 through the 18th c., emphasizing the role of owner Graf Johannes von Nassau-Saarbrücken und Saarwerden. Special attention given to the watercolor paintings made by Johann Walter 1650s-1670s which show the gardens, grotto and many rare plants (Paris, Bibliothèque nationale, and London, Victoria and Albert Museum). Appended list of plants.
