Abstract (en)
Demolition work provided the opportunity to determine if there were any archaeological remains relating to the occupation of the Black Tower in the 16th c. or earlier. Ditch-system interpreted as possible moated enclosure for 13th c. manor house. Post-hole next to the north-east corner of the tower was dated to between the late 12th and 14th cs. by find of part of white Gritty Ware jug (13th c.)
