Original three-bay cruck house dated by dendrochronology to ca.1450. Argues that it was built to house a demesne tenant of one of the Steeple Claydon manors. Shortly before 1600, plaster of the original first floor chamber was decorated with monochrome design of roses. Building alterations were undertaken at this time and in ca.1630/40.
