Abstract
(en)
Discusses works by Giotto and their original locations in Ognissanti, Florence, on the basis of evidence of Ghiberti's and later descriptions. Argues that the light in the Ognissanti Madonna (Florence, Uffizi) and the adjustment of the composition to be seen from the left suggest that it was not painted for the high altar; and proposes that it stood on the tramezzo at the right of the Crucifixion (Ognissanti), perhaps with the Dormition (Berlin, Staatliche Museen, Gemäldegalerie) on an altar below it. (Includes hypothetical reconstructions of the appearance of the tramezzo prior to destruction of the old choir in the mid-16th c.)
