Discusses the representation of a pig playing the lute in a mural painting, 1513-1523, uncovered in late 19th c. (Vrå church, Vendsyssel, North Jutland). Argues that the pig ought to be understood as a symbol of gluttony, one of the seven deadly sins. Interprets another scene depicting a naked bishop and his mistress among the damned. Suggests that both scenes are satires directed against the pope in Rome and the higher clergy.
