Explores the iconography of the dragon primarily in relation to the Leviathan monster of the Apocalypse. Discusses several medieval depictions in mural painting, sculpture, and metalwork, 12th-15th cs., mostly Swedish. Includes as examples a mid-15th c. Swedish mural (Ärentuna church, Uppland) with two renderings of Leviathan, one in a Last Judgment scene, the other in a Creation scene. Notes that the latter scene may be based on an early Israelite version of the Creation not included in the Bible. Compares Leviathan with the dragon in a Swedish sculpture depicting the Archangel Michael, ca.1200, and in a metalwork depicting S. George, 15th c.
