Surveys depictions of S. George in sculpture, mural painting and a few examples in the decorative arts from the 12th to mid-15th c. States that the largest number, about 25, survive from the second half of the 15th c. Relates how Karl Knutsson, king of Sweden and Norway, and his successor, Sten Sture the Elder made the saint popular. Discusses the latter's donation of a carved oak group, S. George and the Dragon (Stockholm, Storkyrkan), 1489, by Bernt Notke from Lübeck. Deals with the sculpture's influence on some 50 groups in Sweden and Finland.
