A recent retrospective exhibition of the work of Yayoi Kusama at the Center for International Contemporary Arts, New York, and its accompanying catalogue by Bhupendra Karia and Alexandra Munro, prompts this overview of the career of the Japanese artist. A familiar figure in the New York avant-garde of the 1960s, the artist now lives in a psychiatric hospital in Tokyo.
