Reviews the exhibition Fake? at the British Museum (spring-summer 1990), which presented some 600 art frauds drawn largely from the museum's own storerooms. Considers some of the questions raised by the exhibition, including such issues as authenticity, originality, and the distinction between copies and fakes.
