Abstract (en)

Feminist study of historiographic and theoretical issues within which the nude, especially the female nude, in western art poses itself as problematic. Specific works analyzed are Thomas Eakins's Gross Clinic (Philadelphia, Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University), Delacroix's Liberty on the Barricades (Paris, Musée du Louvre), Renoir's late nudes, and Manet's Déjeuner sur l'Herbe (Paris, Musée d'Orsay).
