A large retrospective exhibition devoted to the American artist at P.S. 1, New York, (8 Dec 1991-9 Feb 1992), prompts this discussion of the artist and his work. Sees Oppenheim as shaman, breaking down the barriers between art and life. Focuses on his recent sculpture and its themes, noting the dark undertone which imbues much of this work.
