Chronicles the vicissitudes of Joseph Beuys's relationship with the city of Düsseldorf--the city where he studied, taught, and created his most important works. Notes that Düsseldorf has been slow to recognize the internationally renowned artist, but cites recent efforts to redress that position, namely a major retrospective exhibition organized by Armin Zweite of the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen, as well as plans for that museum to acquire works by Beuys and to exhibit others on long-term loan from a private collector.
