Abstract (en)
History of redecoration of the choir in this Venetian church in the early 1580s, based on records recently discovered in the Grimani archives. The project was commissioned by Marino Grimani in honor of his father Girolamo. There are three main elements: 1) Veronese's altarpiece with the Adoration of the Shepherds; 2) Vittoria's portrait bust of Girolamo, made 1573 and incorporated in a wall monument to Girolamo; and 3) Smeraldi's overall architectural framework, including the wall monument. Author also attributes the upper part of the church façade to Smeraldi; and discusses sculpture by Francesco Casella for the monument. Documents 1581-1585 appended.
