Reflections on the recent obscenity trial involving the Cincinnati Contemporary Arts Center, its director Dennis Barrie, and the sexually explicit photographs shown as part of the exhibition, Robert Mapplethorpe: the perfect moment. Originally delivered as the keynote address at the annual convocation of the College Art Association, Washington, DC (22 Feb 1991).
