Discusses the problems involved in finding sufficient and qualified illustrators for G.C. Oeder's Icones Florae Danicae which was published from 1761 onwards. The shortage of illustrators resulted in the establishment of a school on Christianshavn, Copenhagen, led by two German-born women who enrolled only orphan girls.
