Abstract (en)
Discusses and interprets the Mexican artist's paintings, with their highly autobiographical imagery, in relation to various sources of influence including the places Galán has lived and worked (most notably Mexico and New York City), the work and sensibility of Andy Warhol, and the non-ex-voto type of Mexican retablo. Asserts that much of the meaning of Galán's art lies in its relationship to traditional Mexican retablo imagery, noting that most of his images can be described as quasi-religious.
