Describes and interprets two recent works by the British artist: A Thousand Years, 1990, a glass and steel vitrine containing maggots, a cow's head, and an electronic fly-killer; In and Out of Love, 1991, an installation involving Malaysian butterflies. Suggests that these "social sculptures" are a satire on the cult of the vitrine initiated by Joseph Beuys.
