Discusses the factors that prevented Norman Lewis (an African-American artist closely associated with the Abstract Expressionists) from attaining the critical and financial success accorded other New York Abstract Expressionist artists, including Pollock. Concludes that race was an important factor in his disappearance from the Abstract Expressionist canon.
