Discusses the "value" of Byzantine icons in the 11th-15th cs. Considers ordinary icons, and especially those alleged to perform miracles. States that owners of these special icons had to attract and maintain the public's interest, and in so doing employed "some very modern sales techniques." Oikonomides uses the vocabulary of contemporary marketing to address the issue of icons' value.
