Recounts the history of the bronze doors cast in the years 1152-54 in Magdeburg for the cathedral of Płock (now in S. Sophia, Novgorod). Analyzes their iconographic program, arguing that the present arrangement of the 47 scenes as a narrative of the life of Christ is incorrect. Reconstructs the order of the scenes to reflect the articles of the Apostles' Creed, noting the importance of the diocese of Płock as a center of missionary work in the mid 12th c.
