On a book of sketches by Ghezzi (Berlin, Kupferstichkabinett), ca.1722-1724, the contents of which served as preliminary drawings for illustrations destined to accompany the published writings of Pope Clement XI. These sketches were commissioned by his nephew Annibale Albani, and include portraits of the pope, vignettes and biblical scenes. Discusses the Albani family as patrons, and their involvement in book publishing; 17th c. book design; Ghezzi's activity as illustrator; and includes a catalogue of the drawings in the Berlin sketchbook.
