Abstract (en)
Analysis of Picasso's Cubist collages, 1912-1914, in relation to the music hall revue so popular in Paris at the same period. Cites clippings from sheet music, newspapers, and advertisements and the use of puns and wordplays as the salient contents in Picasso's collages, and asserts that these same items were the signal ingredients of the music hall revue. Concludes that the revue can be seen as a primary source for Cubist collage imagery, especially in the oeuvre of Picasso.
