Explores the influence of Asian philosophy, especially Taoism and Zen Buddhism, on American art and artists since the 1950s. Discusses 20 artists, including Carl Andre, Robert Arneson, Walter De Maria, Patricia Johanson, Jasper Johns, Robert Morris, Robert Rauschenberg, Larry Rivers, William T. Wiley, and Christopher Wilmarth. Proposes new interpretations of these artist's works based on Asian philosophical concepts.
