Traces the history of the palace, built for Filippo Adimari after 1520 and traditionally attributed to Nanni di Baccio Bigio, now believed to have been begun by Giulio Romano, ca. 1530, and finished (with alterations) by Nanni in the mid-16th c. Describes further alterations to the architecture after the palace passed to the Salviati family and, later, to the Italian government. Illustrates the mural paintings by Santi di Tito (1561-1563) in the chapel and by Annibale Brugnoli (1883) in the library. Also includes information on the Salviati collection of ancient sculpture and on the garden, now part of the Orto Botanico. Appendix: inventory (1704); other documents, 1520-1871.
