Abstract (en)

Proposes a method of art historical research based on the principle of system analysis. Argues that art history is a discipline that starting from the system "science" occupies itself with the study of the system "art" according to the binary structured code of the science system: true/false. The researcher should therefore confine himself to the analysis of the binarity of the art code. Also presented as the author's doctoral dissertation (Leiden, Rijksuniversiteit).
