Abstract (en)
Presents documentary and visual evidence in support of the argument that the war of 1672-74 between Britain and the Netherlands was at least in part provoked by Charles II's anger over allusions to himself as the eviscerated and possibly castrated Mala Bestia trampled under the feet of the United Provinces on a medal by Christopher Adolfzoon (London, British Museum) commemorating the Peace of Breda, 1667.
