Abstract (en)
Presents and analyzes texts by artists, critics, and institutions casting light on the controversies aroused by the invention of photography. Shows that different photographic processes aroused different reactions at different times; traces the rise of the artist-photographer; discusses photography's place in exhibitions of fine versus industrial arts; and notes the conscious recognition and propagation of photography's inherent qualities.
