The first publication covers wooden structures, mainly buildings and bridges, mainly in the United States, demonstrating the durability of wood when properly maintained. The second is an account of the longest wooden bridge ever built: the covered bridge over the Schuylkill at Fairmount, PA, designed by Lewis Wernwag and officially known as the Lancaster-Schuylkill Bridge (destroyed by fire in 1838).
