Identifies a mythical beast depicted on two English brasses as the Calopus--a creature with a lion's mane and tail, goat's beard, boar's tusk, clawed feet and serrated horns. The brasses are those of Sir Godfrey Foljambe (Chesterfield, church, 1529) and Margaret Wyllughby (Raveningham, church, 1483). Suggests the Calopus is of heraldic significance.
