Study of the impact upon Town of his first travels abroad, Oct 1829-July 1830, to study architecture and bridge engineering in England and Europe; based on information from his correspondence with his daughter Etha Peters and his partner Alexander Jackson Davis concerning his experiences and reactions, his contacts with the artistic community in London, and his acquisition of books and prints. Also briefly discusses his second tour, July-Dec 1843.
