Abstract
(en)
Detailed study of a little-known aspect of Portuguese painting: the shift from late Mannerism to early Baroque style in the first half of the 17th c. Artists discussed range from Amaro do Vale and Pedro Nunes (transitional figures, both trained in Rome) to Domingos da Cunha, André Reinoso and Baltasar Gomes Figueira (all trained in Spain, influenced by the schools of Seville and Madrid), and José de Avelar Rebelo (the principal artist of the nationalistic generation of the Restoration).
